Stop the page that copies your bank before it loads
Web Shield resolves every lookup over encrypted DNS and refuses the ones that lead to phishing, malware and tracking. Because it works at the network layer, it covers every app on the device rather than one browser.
How it works
1. Pick a server
Quad9 is the default and is security aware out of the box. Ads plus malware blocking and the stricter filters are available on paid plans.
2. It applies everywhere
Filtering happens before a connection is made, so it holds in every browser and inside apps that open web views.
3. Blocked pages explain themselves
A blocked page says what it was and why, and offers a way back rather than a dead end.
Questions about this feature
Is public WiFi safe
Open networks let anyone nearby see which sites your device contacts. AVO checks the network when you join it and turns the VPN on for you when it is open.
Does this block ads in apps
On the Ads plus Malware server, yes. Filtering happens at the DNS layer, so it applies to apps as well as browsers.
Will it break a site I need
Occasionally a filter is too strict. You can allow a domain from the blocked page itself, and the allowance sticks.
